In July 2026 the new National Guidelines Knowledge Security were published. These guidelines are a fully revised version of the previous guidelines from 2022. As the sector has adopted an increasingly mature knowledge security policy in recent years, the guidelines were due for revision.
The new version, which was developed in close cooperation between the knowledge sector and the central government, is more in line with the current state of the sector. The content has been updated, and information has been clarified or supplemented where necessary. In collaboration with the intelligence and security services, the threat assessment in the guidelines has also been updated. Furthermore, a clearer distinction has been made between information that intended as guidance and the description of more binding frameworks.
The guidelines are intended for the entire knowledge sector. For instance, the document provides administrators with tools for steering knowledge security policy, and offers advisors, policymakers, and scientists suggested courses of action for the implementation of that policy. The Indicators for Risk Assessment, published in 2025, are now included as an appendix.
The guidance will be updated periodically. Would you like to submit a proposal for an addition? Please email your suggestion to netwerk@loketkennisveiligheid.nl.
